With a brand new single heating up the charts and a new album on the way, things are looking up for 5 Seconds of Summer.

"You know what? I have the perfect word for it: promising," Michael Clifford told McCabe in the SoCal Honda Sound Stage at AMP Radio. "That’s exactly what 2018 is for 5 Seconds of Summer."

"I think we have an incredible new record and I think we have an amazing first single back and I think it’s going to blow the world away with what we’ve made."

"Want You Back" is the last song 5SOS wrote for their forthcoming third studio album.

"Everyone was a little bit burnt out creatively," Calum Hood explained. "But we said to each other, look, we all didn’t think that we had the first song that kind of captured the whole experience of what we’ve been through as a band over the last two years."

"It was a very organic process," he continued. "It started out on piano with the chords and then everything just kind of flowed. It didn’t really take too long. It wasn’t too strenuous, which usually our best songs come out of that."

The band hasn't announced an album release date yet, but they did reveal they're already done recording it.

"I think it’s very personal," Luke Hemmings said. "All the parts have been thought about a lot. It’s not overloaded with guitars and stuff, the guitars are where they need to be and bass parts where they need to be."
