Grande and Gaga Unite! Stars Set to Perform Together at the MTV VMAs

Anticipation for the event goes sky high after Ari's teaser tweet

August 18, 2020

Ariana Grande set the internet a blaze with the stoke of a tweet, announcing a joint performance with Lady Gaga at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

“Rain on me with @ladygaga live from the #vmas august 30th on @mtv,” reads the simple message. A 15 second video of the pair’s latest hit “Rain on Me” is enough to build big anticipation for the August 30 show. The track and video are nominated for a whopping seven Moon People, almost assuring the “thank u, next” singer and her Chromatica partner will take home hardware by night's end.

Buzz around the clip has been stirring all summer. Gaga recently posted a candid moment backstage shooting the music video. We just hope Ari’s eye healed before the performance!

Gaga and Ari were originally set to perform the hit single live in Los Angeles near the end of July. According to a report from Page Six, both pop stars agreed to cancel due to safety precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. VMA artists will perform on stage at audience-less locations around New York City, adhering to safety protocols.

The live performance marks Ari’s first since 2018 at the awards show, when she performed her hit “God Is a Woman.” She’s nominated for an astounding nine awards - Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, Best Choreography and Best Collaboration (all for “Rain on Me”), and for her collaboration with Justin Bieber, “Stuck With U” (Best Collaboration and Best Music Video From Home).
