"I have something funny planned for when we don't win," Kimmel revealed.

Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the glamorous Emmy awards show this weekend, but he doesn’t think that gives him an extra leg up on the competition when it comes to his nomination for Best Variety Talk Series.

“It’s not that I don’t want to win. It’s just that I don’t expect to win at all,” the late night host told Carson Daly on 97.1 AMP Radio. “And also I have something funny planned for when we don’t win.”

Kimmel refused to divulge any details about his “loser bit,” which means we’ll be glued to the TV when the awards show airs live this Sunday at 5pm PT on ABC.

It’s Kimmel’s second time hosting the Emmys and he’s got big plans for an entertaining evening.

“For me, the most fun part is as the show gets rolling and being able to comment on things that are actually happening because when you come out, you’re coming out of nowhere really and the show’s starting very cold, so, everything’s about current events and it’s always more fun to talk about things that are going on in the seats and backstage and occasionally on stage.”

There’s lots of expectations for a great opening monologue and Kimmel explained it’s a completely different experience than his monologue he does every week night on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“People that are watching you on TV in Chicago or something and then come out and see the show live, they’re excited, whereas the celebrities, really let’s be honest, they only care about themselves! They want to make sure they look good and they win and if they win, they give a good speech…Everybody’s got a lot of things on their minds at the Emmys, whereas a regular show, they just want to watch the show.”

Kimmel originally wanted to lighten the mood by constructing a dunk tank-style pool on stage, but producers nixed the idea after it was deemed an illegal safety hazard.

“[I wanted] people to leap into triumphantly after they win…You know, they’re all made up. They’re in tuxedos and dresses and they spent four hours on their hair and now they just look like a wet dog!”

And Hollywood’s elite A-listers aren’t the only ones spending hours upon hours trying to look good. Kimmel revealed he’s on a diet where he basically doesn’t eat any food on Mondays and Thursdays!

“Last night I was sitting at my kitchen table, typing on my laptop, working on jokes until about 2:30 in the morning and during that time I ate a whole jar of mustard…with a spoon.”

“I will eat 500-600 calories, so that accounts for the mustard,” he continued. “Turns out mustard has almost no calories!”
