Forbes revealed their list for Cash Kings 2015: The World’s Highest Paid Hip-Hop Acts today (Sept.22). The hip-hop mogul who constantly changes his name, Diddy, sits atop the list after raking in an estimated $60 million.
The magazine reports Diddy made his money outside of the music industry. “Diddy rakes in cash from the fruits of a reputation forged in music: TV network Revolt, clothing line Sean John, alkaline water brand Aquahydrate and Ciroc vodka, which brings in the bulk of his bucks. He’s also readying a new album,” the magazine notes.
Rapper and Tidal owner Jay Z came in a close second with an estimated earning of $56 million. The bulk of his money came from the On the Run Tour with his wife Beyonce and his dealings with Roc Nation and Armand de Briganc.
Drake landed on the list at number 3 by bringing in an estimated $39.5 million based on his platinum-selling If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, 50 concerts and endorsement deals with Nike and Sprite.
“We consider pretax income from touring, record sales, streaming, publishing, merchandise sales, endorsements and other business ventures. Management, agent and attorney fees are not deducted. Earnings are calculated from June 2014 to June 2015 and based on data from Nielsen SoundScan, Pollstar, the RIAA and from interviews with managers, lawyers, executives and a handful of the artists themselves,” Forbes explained.
Last year’s top earner Dr. Dre fell from the top spot to number four, earning a paltry $33 million.
