Everyone needs a little Salvador Dalí in their lives from time to time. For Imagine Dragons, the time is now.

From the ruffled collars and Little Lord Fauntleroy ties the band don in the video for new single “Shots,” to the obvious floating images and snakes in inappropriate places, the theme here is obvious: surrealism is cool. So why this, why now?

The aim of the Surrealists was to tap into the unconscious mind. They painted images from dreams that were thought to be a mix of memory and sense impressions that unlocked something of a person’s soul. Whether it be a statement from the artist or the impression it made on the viewer of the art, it was meant to be a revealing sort of thing. It was seen by the artists as philosophical movement.

So here, Imagine Dragons clearly want to use the music on their new album to tap into your unconscious feelings.
