In just ten days, Seth Meyers will tackle one of the most thankless jobs in Hollywood: host of the Primetime Emmy Awards.

It’s his first time leading the festivities. In fact, it’s been a whole year of new beginnings for the 40-year-old comedian. The Weekend Update anchor left Saturday Night Live earlier this year to launch his first talk show, Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Meyers, who called into the AMP Morning Show earlier today, told Carson the Emmys are a whole different ball game compared to one of his previous hosting gigs at the White House Correspondents Dinner.

“Even if you bomb at the White House Correspondents Dinner, you’re the funniest person in the room. Whereas at the Emmys, even if you kill, you’re not as funny as some of the people that sitting in the first few rows, so that’s the intimidating part of the Emmys,” Meyers explained.

“At least at the White House Correspondents Dinner if a joke bombed, I wasn’t going to look down and see Tina Fey. I was going to look down and see a congressman from Wyoming and I’d be like, ‘Oh, you’re so funny?!’

So how does Meyers plan to kill it at the Emmys? He says it was hard to narrow down all the great ideas he and his team have been planning for months.

“It’s a three-hour show. I’m probably responsible for 15 minutes tops. That’s just the reality of a night where they have to give out 20+ awards and half of that 15 minutes will probably be my monologue just because that’s where I kind of think my strengths lie.”

“It’s not my comedy special,” Meyers continued. “If I want to be indulgent, I have a show at 12:30 a.m. where I can do that every night of the week, so really you just want to, I think, open the show strongly, do a couple funny things to keep things moving in the middle, and get out of the way.”
