In an interview with The Guardian, Lana reveals just how close Reed came to appearing on the song, which features the line, “My boyfriend’s in the band, he plays guitar while I sing Lou Reed.”

“I took the red eye, touched down at 7am … and two minutes later he died,” she said.

Talking with The Guardian, Lana also says the criticism of her music is not sexist, but just straight-up personal, explaining that she’s not a “true provocateur” like that of Lily Allen or Lorde or Miley Cyrus, who also deal with criticism.
