This morning, Pitbull sat down with Gayle King on CBS This Morning to talk not about his salacious live shows in casinos, but rather his philanthropy.

Pitbull (née Armando Christian Perez) founded a charter school in Miami called Slam Academy in the Miami neighborhood where he grew up. It’s not a music school, though, it’s about “sports, leadership and management.”

“Kids love sports,” says Pitbull. “Sports is one of the first things that teach you to believe in yourself, gives you discipline, shows you the more you practice, the harder you work, the better you get.”

Watch the full interview below to find out how an intervention with his father when he was a kid, and the help of a high school teacher set Pitbull on the path to being a global brand.
