History was made over the weekend when the St. Louis Rams picked up the league’s first openly-gay player, Michael Sam, during the 7th round of NFL Draft.

Much like the Brooklyn Nets player Jason Collins, it’s people like these guys who are paving a better road for those who follow tomorrow.

“It takes more and more people just to come forward and show we’re normal people and we’re just trying to make plays to help our respective teams win,” Collins said. “This is a great day for the NFL and for Michael Sam and his family.”

The White House released a message on behalf of President Obama: “The President congratulates Michael Sam, the Rams and the NFL for taking an important step forward today in our Nation’s journey. From the playing field to the corporate boardroom, LGBT Americans prove everyday that you should be judged by what you do and not who you are.”

Congratulations to Michael Sam and good luck with the Rams this season!  Check out Michael’s draft moment from this weekend for today’s Viral Video of the Day.

Also, really quick. Michael, if you happen to be reading this, any chance I can get that tall blonde girl’s phone number in the very beginning of the clip in the dress on the right?  Wow!
