There is something weekend about the debauchery of Cinco De Mayo bookending the left with the wholesome family down time of Mother’s Day holding down the right all in the span of one week. We could’ve easily went the expected route and gathered a list of mom safe brunches, but what fun is that? If you have the kind of mom that occasionally uses a four lettered word (appropriately of course) we have a few places for you to check out below. Seriously though, give your mom a big smooch – she deserves at least that.
TWERK: IGGY AZALEA AT THE OBSERVATORY
The Australian model/rapper that has remained high atop critics’ and cynics’ lists for quite some time now has FINALLY dropped her T.I. backed debut, The New Classic. It is as good as everyone hoped it would be and the accompanying tour to support the release has been met with the same critical praise. On the strength of singles like, “Work” and “Fancy”, this is the rare gem that balances the fine line between unfiltered pop with all the bounce of a proper hip hop show.

THEATRE: THE BOOK OF MORMON AT SEGERSTROM CENTER FOR THE ARTS
It’s important to reiterate that since it’s 2011 opening, this Broadway satirical juggernaut has racked up some nine Tony Awards, one for Best Musical and earned a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. For those of you living under a rock, Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park fame are the genius madmen behind this brilliant comedy that continues to sell out with consistency. From Chicago to London’s West End Theatre, three plus years of packed houses can’t be wrong.

CIRCUS: CIRCUS VARGAS AT IRVINE SPECTRUM CENTER
Although the big top has taken a hit in popularity in recent years due to animals rights concerns, there is something about a show under the big top that tugs at the fabric of wholesome childhood nostalgia. A box of popcorn and a guy some 50 feet in the air on a spinning hoop that is set on fire – pretty hard not to be intrigued. Expanding more on the trapeze and comedic facets of the show, Circus Vargas aims to bring back the luster of the ringmaster.

CLUB: JUICY J AT TEN NIGHTCLUB
For those that may scoff at the often-scandalous subject matter of all things Juicy J, you might want to turn away. Since striking out on his own apart from his Three 6 Mafia brethren and finding an ally in fellow toker Wiz Khalifa, J has reinvented himself among a new crop of barely legal club goers hellbent on soaking in everything in excess. The club setting is will only give fans the chance to binge on belligerence – but for Juicy J experience to be anything but would be lame.

BOWL: HIPsters Only: Hospitality Industry Professionals AT LUCKY STRIKE
A service industry night isn’t particularly exciting. A couple of bucks off a drink you probably weren’t going to order anyway just doesn’t strike most service workers fancy. Lucky Strike however goes in with darn near $2 everything (Shoe rental, bowling games, etc) as they open their doors especially to those who work for tips. Not your average bowling joint, the place leans on the swanky side of things and boasts some late night grub that goes well with bargain priced cocktail. A great Sunday hang.
