Dr. Drew Talks Justin Bieber

There’s no hiding the fact that Justin Bieber is in trouble. Having just been arrested for a DUI, while admitting to consuming alcohol, marijuana, and prescription meds before getting behind the wheel of a car, the web is a buzz with stories discussing what is going on with the famous young singer.

Dr. Drew Pinsky spoke with AMP Radio today, back stage at The GRAMMYs, and gave his perspective on the entire story.

McCabe asked if he thought it was just a kid who is 19, doing what 19 year olds do…

“That’s the question. Is it a 19 year old with way too much money, way to much power…Who grew up in a fish bowl, in extraordinary circumstance, who didn’t go through the usual developmental milestones that the rest of us did? OR, is this burgeoning addiction?”

He then discussed how his perspective has changed on the issue.

“Somebody played me back a tape of me questioning the same thing last year. I was saying last year, I don’t know really about it being addiction. We don’t really see the usual stuff. Well now we have sizzurp with codeine, now we’ve got Xanax, pot and weed regularly.”

Turns out, he also had some inside scoop to the arrest that happened recently, and what was being reported in the news.

“I talked to the lieutenant who did the house search at his house, after the egg throwing incident and he said that there wasn’t a lot of drug paraphernalia, that all that is rumor…the only drugs they found was on that kid they eventually arrested.”

He ended the interview with his overall perspective on the entire situation.

“So the question is…is this opiate and benzodiazepine (Xanax), substances that he’s been abusing, is that really becoming a part of his life? If so, if that’s true, we need to be really concerned….but his management just stepped up today and said either you get treatment or I’m out. Slow clap for that, that’s the right thing.”
