College Offers Class On Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Relationship

By Nadia Noir

A class on Kanye West musical narcissism makes sense. So does a study on Jay-Z‘s power and the supposed illuminati. But a class based on Jay-Z and Kanye West’s relationship? Take it yeezy already with these weird class ideas, folks.

Well, if you go to the University of Missouri, you could totally sign up for this class next fall.

Jay Z and Yeezy have been homies since the early 2000s. Their boos had children around the same time, the created the rap supergroup The Throne, and they have partnered up in some of the most interesting ventures ever.

Now students can analyze this relationship in a class entitled “Jay-Z and Kanye West” a/k/a English 2169.

According to the class syllabus, the class goes into “(1) Where do they fit within, and how do they change, the history of hip-hop music?; (2) How is what they do similar to and different from what poets do?, and (3) How does their rise to both celebrity and corporate power alter what we understand as the American dream?” Some of the course materials includes “Jay-Z’s Decoded; histories of and critical works on rap music by Jeff Chang, Adam Bradley, and others; and one or two good studies of how poetry works.”

What do you think? Would you be down to decode the throne and learn a thing or two about hip-hop domination?
