MLK Kingdom Day Parade 2014

Today, the country honors civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and one of the largest celebrations takes place right here in Los Angeles.

The Kingdom Day Parade kicks off at 11am near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Crenshaw Blvd.

Thousands will be in attendance to see Grand Marshal Mayor Eric Garcetti and several other representatives from the police department and city council.

This year’s theme is “Ain’t Gonna’ Let Nobody Turn Us ‘Round.”

The nation’s oldest King-day celebration will also feature marching bands, drill teams, dance groups and equestrian units.

January 15 would have been MLK’s 85th birthday. The country observes the federal holiday annually on the third Monday of January.
