Would you be annoyed if your $400 dinner was interrupted by a fussy baby?

That’s the question Chef Grant Achatz of Chicago’s upscale Alinea restaurant posed on Twitter and the response has ignited a firestorm.

Carson and Producer Angie both have young children and couldn’t help but weigh in on the hot topic.

“For my birthday, we went to Morton’s, a steakhouse, a pretty decent restaurant. He’s [Angie’s son] usually great at dinner and he had a full meltdown,” Producer Angie explained.

“I was super embarrassed and there was an older couple by us and they could not have been nicer. They got up and came and said, ‘We’re grandparents. Don’t worry about it.’ They obviously saw that we were embarrassed, but it happens! You know, kids have meltdowns.”

Carson, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky during a recent dinner with his own family.

“I had the owner of a restaurant in New York recently get all lippy with us over my daughter and it wasn’t even that great of a restaurant. We exchanged words,” he said.

“You’ve never seen a 16-month-old? And Siri’s done the like, walk her outside, it wasn’t even crowded and we were in a corner. We had done everything that we could and we were having a moment with our kid, it’s going to pass and this guy’s gotta start jawing at me.”

Despite that experience, Carson and Producer Angie both agree there are some places you just shouldn’t take a child.

“What’s the cutoff?” Carson asked. “Like Morton’s is a great restaurant…The line’s got to definitely be at fine dining.”

“Just because you have kids doesn’t mean that you should feel a sense of entitlement to do and go anywhere you want, he continued. “You have to have respect for your fellow people.”

Alinea, the restaurant in question, was named one of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Diners usually wait months for a reservation and pay around $300 a plate.

“I don’t think I would take my son to that restaurant because I wouldn’t want to ruin, well, my meal, but I also wouldn’t want to ruin people’s meals around me either,” Angie said.
