The drive down the 395 is one of my favorites to make an adventure out of. From the breathtaking views to the little town of Bishop to fill up for gas, the 5 hour drive from LA to Mammoth really goes by in a blink of an eye. This holiday season I had the pleasure of cruising down this stretch of highway for a trip back home in addition to my first visit to Mammoth Mountain.

I picked up my buddy Jake at the Mammoth/ Yosemite airport on a brisk Saturday morning. He took the hour flight from LAX while my dog Max and I made the road trip. We timed it perfectly. As I pulled into the airport, Jake’s plane landed. About 20 minutes later we were checking into the Mammoth Mountain Inn.

This place was great! Not only was it dog friendly, but you are literally walking distance to the chair lift. We stashed our bags in the lobby and hit the slopes, taking the Panorama Gondola to the top of the Sierra. The views were absolutely amazing. Nothing but blues skies and snow capped mountains. For at least a minute you have to stop down and take it in, snag some photos and get’em out there on Instagram! Like. Like. Like. Like.

The first day consisted of  taking on the Main Lodge side of the mountain. From the top of the Sierra to Solitude, Easy Rider, Wall Street, Stump Alley and more, the weather couldn’t have been more perfect, nothing but sunshine and blue skies. For my first time at Mammoth it really made for a great weekend. Day 1 was complete and it was time for some grub. We ended the night with a 5 minute shuttle ride down the road at Sushi Rei. Great food and they even had Sake in a can!

The next morning we had breakfast at the Mammoth Mountain Inn. The sausage and eggs were fantastic and we even got a visit from Woolly The Mammoth. He’s got some dance moves! After breakfast we geared up, walked Max and then hit the slopes. Day 2 consisted of the Eagle and Canyon Lodge side. Again, nothing but blue skies and amazing views. Had a brief snack at the Eagle Lodge and then made our way into some backcountry. I’ve skied many places, Tahoe, Park City, Big Bear but I must say that Mammoth is now one of my favorites.

This Ski/ Snowboard season head down the 395 or take that hour LAX flight and write your own Mammoth Story. I’ll be back! #MammothStories
