“Friday Night Tykes” Football Docuseries Shocks Carson Daly & Producer Angie

Everyone knows football is a big deal in Texas. They practically come out of the womb kicking field goals!

However, a new reality docuseries that sheds light on the intense training is drumming up some pretty big controversy.

Friday Night Tykes, premiering January 14 on Esquire TV, shows 8 and 9-year-olds getting berated by overly-aggressive coaches.

Sure, getting involved in sports at a young age builds character and teamwork skills, but do the coaches and parents in this show go too far?

Representatives from the NFL say they’re disturbed by the footage, calling the trailer “troubling to watch.”

Carson and Producer Angie shared some of their own thoughts earlier this morning.

“It sounds like something out of Funny Or Die for a second there,” Carson said. “No matter what you think about football as a parent, whether it creates men or monsters, that’s not the controversy. I think one of the things we can universally agree with, 8 and 9-year-olds, that’s a little harsh!”

“I saw the trailer this weekend and I was like, ‘There’s no way this can be a real show,'” Producer Angie agreed. “The way these people talk to these children, it’s unbelievable.”

But Carson says it’s not just the parents and coaches who are to blame.

“And what about the Esquire network?” he asked. “Are they not responsible for this? Is this their way of trying to poke their heads out to get attention?”

“It’s gotta be their way of saying, ‘Hey, look at us. We’re being a little salacious, so watch this to get our name out there,'” Angie added.

“I’d love to hear another side of this,” Carson continued. “We all know the story of football is everything in Texas, but at the Junior Bronco level, that’s pretty insane!”

“And I’m all for tough love too. You know me, I subscribe to that. I brought you into this world, I can take you out!” he joked. “That’s how I feel with my kids, but this seems a lot more than that.”
