All we want for Christmas is to win the Mega Millions lottery. Is that so much to ask, Santa?

The multi-state jackpot has grown to $586 million, which would make for one very happy holiday.

No ticket matched all six numbers during Friday’s drawing, which makes it the second-highest Mega Millions jackpot of all time.

And that’s just where things stand right now. Mega Millions lead director Paula Otto says it could be increased one more time before Tuesday’s drawing.

The record (right now) belongs to the March 30, 2012 drawing, which ballooned at $656 million.

“I think we’ll be very close to the record, and maybe even surpass it,” Otto said. “The challenging part in predicting is that so many of the sales (happen) on the day of the drawing.”

A Mega Millions ticket costs $1 and players choose six numbers from two separate pools of numbers – five different numbers from 1 to 75 and one number from 1 to 15 – or you can opt to go with Easy Pick.
