Lady Gaga Tells Carson Daly ARTPOP Tour Announcement Is Coming “Very Soon”

Number one album in the country? Check. A prime time performance at one of the year’s biggest music awards shows? Check. Jet-setting to Tokyo for another whirlwind week of promotional appearances? Check.

Lady Gaga’s schedule couldn’t get any busier these days, but she managed to squeeze in a quick phone call with Carson Daly for a much-needed catch-up sesh.

Sunday night, Mother Monster teamed up with R. Kelly for what appeared to be a Marilyn Monroe/John F. Kennedy-themed rendition of “Do What U Want” on the American Music Awards, but she insists she wasn’t trying to make a commentary on the recent 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination.

“We were trying, actually, to steer the performance away from Marilyn, that was my attempt! Pretty terrible attempt! It’s really more just about any kind of scandal. I mean, there’s been lots of scandals in the White House, but you know, there’s scandals everywhere else, you know, in pop culture and celebrity life and so I was doing sort of a comment about this.”

Katy Perry’s AMA geisha-inspired performance also made headlines for possibly having racist undertones, but Gaga didn’t see things that way sitting in the audience.

“Maybe it’s because unconditionally means you’re supposed to love no matter what and geishas are paid?” she tried to reason. ”I think people are generally too sensitive and they should just leave her be, but you know, I’m not really the person to ask.”

Lady Gaga may not have won any awards last night, but she still has plenty of reasons to celebrate. ARTPOP debuted at number one on the Billboard albums charts, despite reviews from the critics claiming it wasn’t radio-friendly.

“It doesn’t matter and also, the truth is the label really loves the album and I actually designed for the album to be played on the radio and I think it should be,” she told Carson. “I don’t think that it is not radio-friendly. I think that it’s just pushing the envelope a little bit and there’s plenty of songs on the record that are, you know, catchy and hooky and all of that.”

The 27-year-old also recently hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time, helping the show earn its highest ratings of the season so far.

“The cast is incredible and, you know, I have so much respect for them because they’re actors in New York and I grew up in New York and I was a working musician, actress, go-go dancer, you know, bartender, waitress for a really long time!”

“I don’t get to make a lot of friends all the time because I work a lot and I’m kind of insulated, which is, you know, good and bad,” she continued. “But they’ve been like new friends for me.”

So what’s next for Mother Monster? Her Muppets Holiday Spectacular airs later this week, but that’s not all. She shared exclusive details with Carson about her upcoming ARTPOP tour.

“I can’t wait to bring my tour back to America. We’re going to be announcing it very soon! I’ll make sure to call you, Carson,” she said. “I’m going on tour next year and we’re announcing something in December.”

She wouldn’t elaborate any further on what that December announcement may be, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Until then, Gaga continues to hustle throughout the holiday season with a slew of performances across the globe.

“I’m just feeling very happy because that’s really what I love to do is I love to be in show business and I love to perform for people.”
