The Voice Recap: The Knockouts Pack A Punch!

They’ve auditioned, they’ve battled, and now it’s time for the knockouts!

The Voice coaches have just a couple days to narrow down their teams and during the knockout round, the artists have an opportunity to express a little creative freedom.

Just like the battle rounds, each artist is paired up against someone on their own team. But this week, they each get to perform a song of their own choosing.

The coach then decides who they want to keep and the rest of the panel gets a chance steal away the other contestant.

Earlier this morning, Carson shared his thoughts on last night’s cutthroat episode:

For Carson, the night’s fiercest match-up belonged to Briana Cuoco and Shelbie Z.

“They both do have great voices. I don’t think that this was Bri’s best outing, vocally.”

It was a controversial decision, but coach Blake Shelton sided with Shelbie Z. and eliminated Cuoco from the competition.

Carson explained how Shelton’s strategy differs from Adam Levine.

“Adam’s strategy, no matter what, knockout round, he’s got in the back of his mind who he thinks his strongest artists on his team are for the live shows and that’s a combination of their voice, their potential stardom, their marketability, it’s all business at this point and even if they have an off-day like Bri just had there, but he thought she might be the more viable star, he’d probably keep her.”

Blake, however, tends to make snap decisions based on each individual performance.

“He’s got a heart of gold and he just interprets the battle round or a knockout round as, ‘Hey, whatever just went down, I can’t ignore and in that case, Shelby Z., you just sang your face off and you did out-sing that girl and you won this. I can’t deny you that.'”

Tonight, the rest of the contestants face off in another round of knockouts and don’t forget! The live shows begin next Monday at 8pm PT on NBC. Carson revealed that Christina Aguilera will be performing, so this is must-see TV!
