After months of anticipation, the new iPhone has finally arrived.

Both the 5s and cheaper 5c models were unleashed upon the masses this morning. In fact, during the TODAY show, Carson hung out with a bunch of diehard techies who had been waiting in line for hours.

Apple also released the iOS 7 update. Don’t speak geek? It’s new software that has completely changed the look of your existing iPhone (and comes standard on all the new ones).

Carson’s a little bit set in his ways, so he was caught off guard by all the changes. He came across an article on the blog TechCrunch, which laid out several helpful hints.

Swipe Down For Spotlight

Spotlight is Apple’s search function. In the good old days, you used to swipe all the way to the right through your pages. Now, all you have to do is swipe down anywhere on the screen and it will pop up.

Swipe Up For Control Panel

This is your one stop shop for a bunch of useful tools like Airplane Mode, WiFi, Bluetooth, Flashlight, Alarm Clock, and many more. You used to have to navigate through Settings, but now it’s as easy as a flick of the wrist!

Text & iMessage Timestamps

When did Mom send that text reminding you about grandpa’s birthday? It’s as simple as swiping to the left in any SMS or iMessage conversation.

An exact time will appear next to each speech bubble.

Built-In Level

For all you handy types, Apple has integrated a built-in bubble level app to its compass. Once you open up the compass, swipe to the left to reveal the level and then go hang some pictures or something!

Block Individual Phone Numbers

Creepy ex-boyfriend won’t stop calling you? No problem. You can now block all phone calls and text messages from him with one easy step.

Go to the contact you want to 86, click on the circle with an “i” in the middle of it, scroll down and then you’ll see an option that says “Block this Caller.” And voila! That’s it!
