How good of a friend are you?

That’s the question Producer Angie posed to Carson today. Earlier this morning, she found the results of a survey which asked people the lengths they would go to in order to support a friend.

Naturally, Angie put Carson in the hot seat to find out how he would react in the same situations!

Would you donate a kidney to a friend?

72% said no, but Carson explained he was inspired by Bean, a DJ from our sister station KROQ, who underwent the surgery last year to help one of our longtime co-workers.

“The kidney, in particular, I would do because there’s two,” he said. “In reading about [Bean’s] whole experience, I feel that I wouldn’t compromise my family enough. It’s just enough giving without hurting myself too much.”

Would you loan a friend $500 if they were struggling?

31% answered yes. Carson agreed, but he stressed that you have to set ground rules when it comes to money and friendship.

“I would also not expect back because it will ruin the friendship if you really expect it back.”

Would you stand by a friend who cheated on their spouse?

Less than 1 out of 5 people would be on your side if you were unfaithful and Carson went with the majority on this one.

“I wouldn’t rat anybody out, because it’s none of my business, but I wouldn’t stay friends with somebody who broke that sort of morals and ethics. That’s not the type of person I want to be around. Not on a married level. I can’t go down like that.”

Would you bail a friend out of jail?

Heads up…don’t waste that one phone call on a friend. Only 15% said they’d come through with the favor! Thank goodness Carson has a little more sympathy than the average joe.

“Totally!” he responded without hesitation. “I’ve done it.”

Would you invest money in a friend’s business idea?

This one’s a toughie, which is why only 7% responded yes.

“That whole thing about never getting into business with friends is true,” Carson explained. “I had a record label in New York with one of my best friends and it was really a disaster. It didn’t hurt our friendship, but it’s never a good idea.”
