The Voice Recap: Shakira & Usher Each Lose An Artist

Forget beginner’s luck! Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, the veterans of The Voice, escaped unscathed during last night’s elimination.

Unfortunately, that meant newbies Usher and Shakira each had to say goodbye to one of their own.

Producer Angie was in the house during last night’s show and explained what it was like to watch Carson read off the results:

“The vibe in the room is so cool. The people are so excited to be there,” she described. “Every time a coach shows his face in the room, the place goes crazy. But as crazy as they go for the coaches, as soon as the talent comes out, the singers, they lose their mind! You can see the favorites.”

Following a very sexy appearance from Robin Thicke, Pharrell, and T.I., The Voice further prolonged the suspense by enlisting Blake and Adam to perform alongside their teams. Levine went with a reggae-style arrangement of The Cure’s “Lovesong.”

“It was Adam with his ladies around him!” Producer Angie laughed. “I feel like that’s heaven for Adam.”

But then it was time to get down to business. At the end, Vedo, Garrett Gardner, and Sasha Allen were the last ones left on stage.

“I was scared about Sasha Allen,” Angie admitted. “I don’t think you guys [announce the names] in order, but that she was at the bottom three, I’m like, ‘She’s not going to go home. She can’t go home!’ She was one of the last ones to be saved.”

“We reserve the right to not do it in [order],” Carson explained. “I think maybe Idol does that. Some other show does it, maybe in some sort of order. Just seeing a favorite [up there], yeah, that’s kind of the idea.”

Thankfully, Sasha was spared this week, which meant Vedo and Garrett Gardner were cut from the competition.

“Garrett Gardner’s a young guy. It was great to have him on,” Carson said. “He didn’t make the show last year. He made it far, and Vedo as well, so god bless them both. Wish them nothing but the best.”

That leaves Adam and Blake with 3 artists each. Usher and Shakira each have two apiece.

Don’t forget! On Monday, the top 10 perform live at 8pm PT on NBC.
