Phase 3 of The Voice, the knockouts, is officially in full swing.

Monday night, coaches Adam Levine and Shakira stepped up to the plate, cutting their teams of 8 down to just 4!

They made their decisions based on a series of head-to-head sing offs.

Unlike the battle rounds, the singers each got to choose their own song, performance style, and wardrobe. It was their last chance to show their coach what kind of career they envision for themselves.

With no steals this time around, it was a do or die moment for each contestant.

Who rose to the top of the pack? Carson Daly has your full recap!

“We thought about toying with the format a little bit for these knockouts to add another sort of, you know, fantastic steal or save,” Carson revealed.

“But at some point, as good as the talent is on the show, you’ve got to start whittling down. There’s only seven weeks left. We’re going to the live shows. Everybody needs four [artists] and as good as everybody is, there has to be a heavy elimination. And so that’s the knockouts.”

Just like the name suggests, the knockouts are brutal. Last night, Adam Levine assembled a team entirely composed of fierce females.

Amber Carrington surprised everyone when she beat out early favorites Midas Whale.

Carson suggested that she could be the dark horse of season four and based on her rendition of Avril Lavigne’s “I’m With You,” we have to agree!

Sarah Simmons emerged victorious against country singer Warren Stone, which had Carson asking this morning, “Is Sarah Simmons the new frontrunner?”

Levine also chose Caroline Glaser and Judith Hill to move onto the live shows.

Shakira should be thanking Adam Levine for some of her success. Two of her singers advancing to the next round, Sasha Allen and Karina Iglesias, were actually stolen from his team during the battle rounds!

Aspiring Latina pop star Mary Miranda couldn’t compete with Kris Thomas, who brought the crowd to its feet with “What A Wonderful World.”

“That dude’s got an incredible voice,” Carson said of Thomas.

Sasha Allen established herself as serious competition during Monday’s knockouts.

She was the epitome of old school style and grace during her cover of “At Last.”

Shakira rounded out her team with Karina Iglesias and Garrett Gardner.

Teams Blake Shelton and Usher face off tonight in a special two-hour episode tonight at 8pm PT on NBC!
