Seena’s Trip To Australia: Day 3

G’day mates!

It is now day 3 on our lovely trip down under and all I can say is if you haven’t been to Queensland yet, pack your bags and take the next flight. Seriously! Day or night, Queensland is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen and it just keeps getting better.

I started my day off with a cup of Dare iced coffee that you can pick up at any convenient store around here and let me tell you these Aussies love their cupa! (yes I said cupa – and yes aussies call coffee “cupa”).

Our first adventure took place at the Mossman Gorge Center in the Daintree Rainforest where we went on a tour through the land of the Kuku Yalanji people and experienced their amazing connection with culture, legends and the land itself. Our guide, Tom (a fellow indigenous guide) took us through the trees, plants, huts and rivers to show us firsthand what the beautiful ancient land has to offer. We learned about the nutrients you can get from trees, we extracted shampoo from plants and we even saw how to make clay paint with the rocks. After our hike and the sacred smoking ceremony to free all bad vibes, we sat down for a cup of bush tea and damper (traditional Australian bread) with Tom as he told us stories of his childhood growing up in the rainforest. It was definitely very special to experience such a beautiful hike and learn about such an amazing culture of people.

After our time with Tom, we headed to the Silky Oaks Lodge for lunch. This place is literally the most breathtaking resort. Imagine a giant tree house overlooking the Mossman River in the Daintree Rainforest…and boom! This resort is built exactly like a giant tree house and we were lucky enough to have lunch on top of the spectacular waters. Aside from the ambiance and view, the food was to die for. Everything from the fish, veggies, potatoes and even bread was gourmet. Yum yum yum!

Following our delicious lunch we got to go on the Daintree River Cruise and see Crocodiles! I was skeptical at first and didn’t think we would even get close to a croc, but sure enough Seena and I got face to face with Mr. Scarface himself (the biggest and baddest crocodile in that river). Ok well we weren’t exactly face to face, but we definitely locked eyes with him and that was good enough for me!

Our last adventure of the day took place back at Cairns at the Reef Hotel Casino. No we didn’t gamble- even better- we went to the top of the hotel where they have a wildlife dome called Cairns ZOOm and we literally climbed the dome, power jumped and zip lined through the entire thing! Did I mention that this is also a wildlife dome so we were zip lining alongside parrots and other wild birds? Pretty awesome!

But I can’t leave out the best part…Seena made a new best friend…a Koala! We were almost able to bring her home with us, but security didn’t seem to like that idea.
