‘The Voice’ Recap: Shakira Steals Adam Levine’s Cast-Offs!

As our fearless leader Carson Daly would say, let the battles begin!

Phase two of The Voice began Monday night with teammates competing against each other in a series of sing-offs.

Some were eliminated, but a select few were stolen by other coaches!

In particular, Shakira was quick to use up both of her steals on cast-offs from Team Adam. Hmm…do we sense a new rivalry brewing?

Carson recapped the entire episode for us earlier this morning:

“We’re so proud of what we’ve got this year,” Carson told Producer Angie. “These people are amazing singers. Some of them, we were just like, ‘Oh my god, you guys have to form a group! You’re perfect together!’”

For example, Team Adam’s Amber Carrington and Sasha Allen, who faced off in the first battle Monday evening.

“What a way to start the show,” Carson said.

After some serious consideration, Levine picked Carrington to move on, but Shakira quickly snatched up Allen for her own team.

But Shaki wasn’t done yet. She also played a major role in one of the best battles ever witnessed on The Voice.

Adam made the unwise decision of pitting Judith Hill against Karina Iglesias to sing “It’s A Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World.”

“She’s a frontrunner, but she’s not the only one,” Carson said of Hill.

That was made painstakingly clear when Iglesias majorly stepped up her game yesterday.

Ever since the blind auditions, Shakira had regretted not turning around for Iglesias, but she got her second chance when she activated the steal!

“They needed more steals,” Carson argued.

“There were people that walked away that were still good. I mean, that kid, J’Sun, he did ‘How You Like Me Now’ with Garrett Gardner. I think he might’ve won that battle.”

Carson only had one bone to pick with Monday’s episode. During one of the battles, our host with the most was pressing Blake Shelton to make a decision when the country singer responded with some unexpected sass. “Screw you, Carson!” he snapped.

“There were so many times when he would give me a hard time and I’d give it right back to him,” Carson explained. “I mean, I’m no stand up, but I had a couple of applause breaks when we were shooting the show! I had some zingers!”

“But what do they do? They edit it right out of the show! And what do you see on TV? You just see, ‘Screw you, Carson!’ and then me sit there and take it and they just edit me in silence.”

Carson won’t get his unedited say until the live shows, but the battle rounds continue tonight at 8pm PT on NBC!
