“I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO.”

Due to the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, pop sensation Ke$ha’s hit single “Die Young” has found itself embroiled in controversy. U.S. radio stations sensitive to the situation have either relaxed rotations or removed the song completely from their playlists. Radio tracker Mediabase has reported an 11% drop in airplay since the Friday’s shooting.

Potentially inflammatory lyrics, “Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young,” have sparked heated Twitter debate on the appropriateness of the song in light of last week’s tragedy.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 18th) singer Ke$ha took to Twitter in response to the firestorm with the shocking claiming that she was “forced” to sing the now controversial lyrics

She went on to apologize for the now inappropriate lyrics to her song.

No explanation yet as to why Ke$ha was forced to sing “Die Young.”  She, along with her producer Dr. Luke and fun. frontman Nate Ruess are credited for penning the lyrics.  When the song debuted, she spoke with our very own Carson Daly about the meaning of the lyrics.

“It’s kind of an anthem. It’s a celebration song, which I’m obviously known for writing those, but this one, the concept of it was to live each and every single day like it’s your last and to always remain having a youthful spirit no matter how old I get.”
