‘Voice’ Contestant Jamar Rogers Reunites With Carson Daly To Showcase Single “High” & Break Down Season 3!

In case you couldn’t tell, we’re in full Voice mode here at AMP Radio.

We were on the edge of our seats when the top 8 were narrowed down to 6 and AMP even made a little cameo on last night’s show!

So it seemed like perfect timing to have former contestant Jamar Rogers come to the studio this morning so we can find out what he’s been up to since season 2 wrapped.

Rogers, who was part of Team Cee Lo, was among the top 8 finalists. Last season, The Voice ran things a little differently. Instead of the bottom two vote-getters going home each week, they eliminated a contestant from each team.

Cee Lo Green had a particularly talented final two with Jamar and Juliet Simms. Unfortunately, both couldn’t advance to the finals and Jamar got cut earlier than expected.

“I thought there were just going to be record deals just waiting for me and that wasn’t the case,” Rogers told Carson this morning. “But I can honestly say that everything happens for a reason.”

Instead, Jamar started recording and touring on his own. His latest single, “High,” will be available on iTunes December 4. The lyrical content is extremely personal to Rogers, who overcame an addiction to crystal meth and is currently HIV positive.

“I just think that it’s so funny that the one thing that I never ever wanted to talk about is the one thing that’s opened so many doors for me,” he said. “Something about embracing your truth, man, and standing a little bit taller.”

He timed the release of “High” to coincide with World AIDS Day, which takes place on December 1.

“I really wanted to give something back to my brothers and sisters that are living with HIV and let them know that, you know, they’re not forgotten and if they need someone to look up to, I’ll be that guy for them.”

Carson wasn’t afraid to be honest. While he loves hearing Jamar’s voice, he wasn’t convinced it would be a hit on the radio. Jamar wasn’t afraid to defend his work.

“You have to understand if I was writing music just to make hits, then I wouldn’t be doing it for the love of music,” he explained.

“My definition of success is I’m getting over ten grand a month, which was a hell of a lot more than I was getting in New York to do what I love and I get to speak to kids. I get to encourage them. I let people know that where they were yesterday is not where they have to remain. I’m super successful and I feel like if I keep giving to humanity, guess what? I can’t help but be blessed in return,” he added.

In addition to working on his album and appearing in Cee Lo’s upcoming holiday special on the TV Guide Network, Jamar also recaps The Voice every week for TheInsider.com.

“I love season three, man,” he said to Carson. “You have some really, really good vocalists. I think that it’s even stronger than our top 12.”

So was he surprised by Tuesday’s results? Team Cee Lo’s Cody Belew and Team Christina’s Dez Duron were voted off the show.

“Cody’s a lot of fun to watch, but I thought, you know, everything runs its course. I think it was kind of Cody’s time. Dez, I was actually pretty shocked about…he’s a panty magnet! I thought he’d be a vote magnet as well.”

He was worried for Trevin Hunte this week and you’ll probably never guess why.

“I thought Trevin was on thin ice with that Whitney Houston song. You know, Whitney Houston songs are bad luck on The Voice and so I was kind of holding my breath, but man, he pulled it out.”

But if Jamar had to put money on one of the six remaining vocalists, he believes there’s one clear choice.

“Cassadee Pope, without a question. She’s ready. Everything she does she just exudes star, you know?”
