‘The Voice’ Recap: Battle Round Steals Save Terisa Griffin & Joselyn Rivera!

It’s full speed ahead for The Voice battle rounds!

The remaining contestants kicked off week 2 with a bang and this morning, Carson and Producer Angie are breaking down the best moments from the show.

Who was stolen, who was sent packing, and what does Carson think about it? Find out below!

Julio Cesar Castillo vs. Terisa Griffin: “Conga”

Blake Shelton stepped out of his country comfort zone by assigning “Conga” to Julio and Terisa.

Julio has been singing mariachi style music his whole life and Carson believes that definitely impacted the outcome of this battle.

“I think he had a little bit of an edge singing Gloria Estefan’s ‘Conga,'” he said.

Well, turns out Carson was right! Shelton chose Julio to move on, but thankfully, Terisa was saved from elimination by Mr. Cee Lo Green.

Dez Duron vs. Paulina: “Just The Way You Are”

For Dez, this was all about redemption. He had been turned away last season after the blind auditions and he was determined to make it further in the competition this time around.

At age 16, Paulina’s career is just getting started, but she gave Dez a run for his money with her unique interpretation of the Bruno Mars hit song.

Ultimately, Dez’s experience paid off. Christina Aguilera declared him the winner of this battle.

“I thought that girl Paulina might have gotten stolen in the beginning,” Carson said. “And I like not knowing, you know? Because when they start giving their goodbye speech you’re kind of waiting and then it doesn’t happen.”

Benji vs. Sam James: “You Give Love A Bad Name”

Benji and Sam are both rockers, so their Bon Jovi battle was one most exciting battles of the night. In fact, it was Producer Angie’s favorite!

The song fit right in Benji’s wheelhouse, who made a name for himself during the blind auditions with his spot-on scream.

“Sam James probably doesn’t sing a lot of rock like this,” Carson explained. “He’s more of a probably Jim Morrison-type singer. He was at a disadvantage.”

Sam didn’t let this “disadvantage” hold him back. Coach Adam Levine recognized his efforts by putting him through to the next round.

Nicholas David vs. Todd Kessler: “She’s Gone”

Cee Lo said he chose a Hall and Oates song for Nicholas and David because they’re both “blue eyed souls.”

The two really bonded during their practice sessions and Nicholas even told his coach that it was going to be difficult competing against his friend.

The two blended together with ease, making it a tough decision for Green. In the end, he went with Nicholas and Carson went as far as to call him “one of the frontrunners” so far in this competition.

Joselyn Rivera vs. Sylvia Yacoub: “Best Thing I Never Had”

When Christina Aguilera assigns you a Beyonce track, then you know you have some serious chops!

Both ladies showed off strong vocals, but where one lacked in ad libs, the other lacked in range.

Blake Shelton thought Joselyn was the winner, but Christina instead chose Sylvia. You shouldn’t feel too badly for Joselyn! Both Blake and Adam swooped in to steal her.

Shelton pointed out that he, not Adam, turned around his chair for her during the blind auditions. Adam countered back saying he could envision hearing her voice on the radio today. Swayed by Levine’s flattering comments, Joselyn joined Team Adam.
