Tuesday marked night two of the battle rounds on The Voice and in case you were wondering, we’re still totally obsessed with the steal!

On this season, coaches can steal a singer from another team if their own coach eliminates them during the battle rounds.

This morning, Carson and Producer Angie sounded off on what surprised them the most about yesterday’s episode.

Aquile vs. Nathalie Hernandez: “You Make It Real”

This was Producer Angie’s favorite battle of the evening and Carson heartily agreed, “You know, I think that was the best one too. I really do. Just pure singing.”

Coach Christina Aguilera said she matched up the soulful Aquile with 15-year-old Nathalie because they both exuded a calming vibe.

“She did a great job hitting the harmonies there,” Carson noted while listening to the performance again. “She really just kind of gave way to Aquile, you could tell. He sort owned the song and then Nathalie being 15, just kind of harmonized around him and it made her feel like kind of playing back seat to him.”

It was clear that Aquile was the more experienced out of the two, but Adam Levine put it best when he said, “To me, it’s a classic case of just, Aquile, you’re ready and Nathalie, you will be soon.”

When Christina chose Aquile as the winner, even Carson was surprised when none of the other coaches snatched up Nathalie for their own team.

“She would’ve been a good steal. Especially Blake! I mean Blake loves it, perfect for Blake…There’s so many of these battles and they only have two steals and so they’re just picky and sometimes now Monday morning quarterback you look back and go, ‘Nathalie probably would have been a good one.'”

Melanie Martinez vs. Caitlin Michele: “Lights”

Melanie and Caitlin both have that indie singer vibe going for them, but their voices couldn’t be more different.

In the end, Melanie’s enchanting interpretation of the Ellie Goulding hit secured her spot on Team Adam, but Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton came in on the steal for Caitlin, who showed off some impressive pipes.

“Well I think all the action came at the end on that sort of haunting version of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Lights,'” Carson said. “You’ve got the uniqueness of Melanie going against Caitlin. I’m just dying to see Caitlin sing an Evanescence song. She sounds like that’s just right in her wheelhouse.”

Caitlin, who said during the blind auditions that she was far from normal, opted to team up with the equally kooky Cee Lo Green.
