Carson and Cee Lo Green may look buddy buddy in their boxing gear, but let’s get real, The Voice battle rounds are nothing to kid around about!

Tonight, the contestants will face off against each other in head-to-head competition. In previous seasons, only one could move on to the next round, but the head honchos have added the exciting coaches “steal” to ramp up the drama.

Here’s how it works. After an artist is eliminated in the battle round, the other three coaches can press their button to steal that artist for their own team.

“The talent level is getting so good on this particular show that we can’t let people just walk out of the building,” Carson explained earlier this morning.

If more than one coach presses their button, the artist can choose which team he or she would like to join and each coach can only steal twice. Basically it’s like fantasy football for singers!

“Through the blind auditions, if [the coaches] didn’t get somebody they wanted, they’d keep an eye on them,” Carson said. “There would be a moment in time where they could potentially steal from another coach and we love kind of the interplay and the drama between Blake and Christina because they have a really good time ribbing each other.”

One of the fiercest battles is taking place tonight on Team Cee Lo. Trevin Hunte and Amanda Brown made it an excruciating decision for Green with their duet of Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love.”

“It’s so good! I got chills just remembering shooting this in the room!” Carson recounted. “And knowing Trevin and knowing Amanda both, they’re both so awesome and this is a great example of why we had to start the steal.”
