It’s not often we say that Justin Timberlake has done something uncool. Come to think of it, we’ve never said Justin Timberlake has ever done anything uncool, but we guess there’s a first time for everything.

The pop star/actor/golf enthusiast helped kick off the Ryder Cup on Thursday by reciting an ode to golf.  We have nothing against poetry, but his performance, combined with the patriotic underscoring by the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, just came off completely awkward!

Here’s the full text of “Golf,” which is written by Randy Sabados, in case you want to put on your own rendition:

“The jokes. The laughter. The razzing and ribbing. The humbleness and the handshakes. The beers and the tears. That wonderful feeling of accomplishment when you finally win a tournament which so seldom comes your way. Oh this game. It is never ever the same from day to day. We all hold something about this wonderful game so close and deep within our hearts. It fills our souls with feelings of life. Golf.”
