The New Myspace: Surfer Stephen’s Viral Video Of The Day

I remember when one of my friends was like, “Hey, are you on Myspace?” and I was like, “What?!” She then tried to explain the social media site to me and I was like, “I’m good, I just call people if I want to talk to them.”

I finally checked it out and it was one of the better tools for discovering new music or easily sharing music with your friends at that time, if that’s what you’re into.

It was rad. You could check out your favorite band’s page and see what they were listening to and then just keep exploring new music for what seemed like forever.

Lily Allen and Sean Kingston were two artists that gained fame through Myspace.

Skip ahead years later, MySpace was sold for $580 million to a corporation, then along came Facebook and Myspace was dead. Now it seems the site is mounting a return and one of its new owners is Justin Timberlake.

The site aims to focus back on the music and offer a deeper integration with Facebook and Twitter. I’m not on Facebook. I have a page, which I do nothing with, so I’m sure you as a Facebook user will have a better idea if Myspace can return to the powerhouse it once was, but I’m pulling for them.

Here’s the teaser video Justin tweeted out yesterday for Myspace.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Also, in true Myspace form, check out a song you’ve probably never heard, which is the soundtrack for the Myspace teaser by the great all-star band from Los Angeles, JJAMZ…the video is kinda creepy, but it’s a great song.
