Kendrick Lamar‘s new CD Good Kid, m.A.A.d City is dropping October 2nd of this year. The long-awaited album has been on deck for a while and the West Coast up-and-comer has learned a few things about timing and quality from Dr. Dre.

“I want to come in at the perfect time when I think everyone thinks that the actual essence of lyrics can’t survive anymore,” he told Mr. Incognito, of Power 98 (Charlotte, NC).

The album name comes from “the lifestyle of living in the city” and growing up in Los Angeles, he said. The music represents a “full generation of misled kids.”

The first single off of his album called “Swimming Pools (Drank)” focuses on his experience of being in a household with a lot of alcohol around, which included many house parties. He worked with Dr. Dre for the album, the producer who made a summer party out of Snoop Dogg‘s hit “Gin & Juice” 1994.

But don’t expect Lamar to explain the delay in Dr. Dre’s Detox album. According to Kendrick, it’s still in the works.

“Dre is a perfectionist,” Lamar said. “I’m going to say this, Y’all will get it when you get it. When he feels it’s time, then it’s time.”
