As Deadmau5 is moving further away from the fringes of the dance music underground to a position closer to the heart of the pop culture zeitgeist, he’s lined up a cadre of big-name collaborators for his upcoming new release, Album Title Goes Here. Alongside other dance floor dons like Wolfgang Gartner, the record also features dreamy songstress Imogen Heap, My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way and the most unlikely of Deadmau5 collaborators, L.A. hip-hop legends B-Real and Sen Dog of Cypress Hill on the track “Failbait.”

“Before that song came about, (Cypress Hill) had asked me if I wanted to come out and do their Smoke Out Festival,” Deadmau5 explained to KROQ DJ Stryker during an exclusive interview. “We went and did that, and since we were already talking, I mentioned that I had this kind of hip-hop track I was working on. We had this mutual friend in Calabasas with a studio in his basement, so I just invited them out.

“It just went, you know,” Deadmau5 continued. “I played them the track and they took it with them for like 20, 30 minutes, got on the mic and just spammed it out. The song ‘Failbait’ was kind of old-sounding but new, and who better to work on it than those guys? They just walked right in and cranked it out.”

While fans wait for Deadmau5 to release the full-length Album Title Goes Here on September 25, they can check out this radio rip of “Failbait” featuring Cypress Hill from UK radio.
