Producer Angie’s Olympics Update: Beach Volleyball, Gymnastics, & Pole Vault!

The Olympics are kicking into high gear and last night’s action did not disappoint!

Producer Angie is breaking down all of the biggest stories because honestly, who can stay up until midnight to watch everything in prime time?

So without any further ado, here’s your need-to-know info!

Medal Count:

Team USA is currently in 2nd place overall with 71 medals. China has the lead with 74 medals.

Great Britain and Russia are tied for 3rd place with 48 medals each.

Beach Volleyball:

Excuse us, but we’re feeling a little patriotic after yesterday’s awesome beach volleyball semifinals.

Both American teams defeated their competition, which sets them up for an All-American gold medal match.

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh defeated the Chinese team in 2 sets and hope to earn their 3rd-straight Olympic gold medal.

Meanwhile, April Ross and Jennifer Kessy upset the top-seeded Brazilians in 3 sets.

No matter what, Team USA is guaranteed the gold and silver in this event, so watching the final round won’t be so stressful!

Team USA’s Aly Raisman stepped up to the plate yesterday, winning gold in floor exercise and bronze in balance beam.

Initially, her balance beam score put her in fourth place, but her coach appealed and the judges revised their initial decision.

Gabby Douglas and Jordyn Wieber weren’t as lucky as their teammate. Douglas fell during her balance beam routine and Wieber placed seventh place in floor exercise.

Pole Vault:

Let’s say your girlfriend is competing in the Olympics. It’s probably the most exciting moment in her life, so what better time to pop the question…right? Wrong!

British pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale left the stadium in tears after finishing in 6th place. Little did she know, but her boyfriend had planned all along to propose to her after she had earned a medal.

Despite her disappointing loss, he still decided to go through with it and Bleasdale’s tears of disappointment became tears of joy when he asked for her hand in marriage.
