Independence Day happened on? I know you know this, seventeen seventy….no not seven…..not five…..seriously not eight…it was…….YES! Six, July 4th 1776. With Independence brings us people that are Independent, spawning this week’s Flashback Friday. Who is Independent?

Flashback to 1990 when gas was about $1.34 a gallon, your little sister was playing with her Furby and the original “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” hit theaters, Salt N’ Pepa were very Independent. Get funky…

The same year Bill Clinton was elected the 42nd President of the United States, the average movie ticket cost just over 4 dollars and a movie you might be spending that money on included Jurassic Park, Sleepless In Seattle & Cliffhanger, Country music star Martina McBride was singing about Independence Day off her second album The Way That I Am in 1993. Yes, we are about to get a little country on this Flashback Friday.

Before Beyonce and Jay-Z’s child Blue Ivy, the world danced to the music of Destiny’s Child. Made up of three “Bootylicious” singers Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, Destiny’s Child brought us many hits to sing to, but one anthem from back in 2000 for only the Independent Women to sing. Charlie’s Angels fans you know this one!

Now we Flashback to 2003 where gas has risen to the outrageous price of about $1.83 a gallon (who would pay that), Arnold Schwarzenegger is elected Governor of California & the first American Idol, Kelly Clarkson was Miss Independent.

R&B singer & ladies man Ne-Yo is possibly a huge fan of Kelly Clarkson or just really loves a hard working- woman. In 2008 when the Writers Strike came to an end, Justin Bieber was 14 and the average cost of gas is now $3.34 (I’m walking from now on) Ne-Yo was also singing about Miss Independent.

Have a great Independent Weekend!
