Good afternoon folks this weeks Sample This should be fun. Why? Because if you ever wanted to know what your parents use to listen to back in the day & use it against them every time they criticize the music you listen to then this is your chance.

Snoop Dogg and Dre Dre ruled the early 90s with their west coast gangsta rap & the single “Nothing But A G Thang” was sure to put a stamp on their reign with two decades of continuous airplay.

“Nothing But A G Thang” was the first single off Dr Dre ‘s 1992 debut album The Chronic which by the way continues to be a classic and sell in stores as if it just came out. The song was sampled from soul singer Leon Haywood’s 1975 hit single “I want a do Something Freaky” which peaked at # 15 on the charts.

Usually when a song has been sampled from the original song the track is often slowed down or sped up to disguise the sampling but this track in particular has the same melody and beat, making it easier to hear the similarities between the two songs.

Dr.Dre ‘s “Nothing But A G thang” was voted Greatest Hip Hop Song in the 90s by XXL magazine in 2011 and reached #2 on the Billboard 100.

Dr Dre is currently working on his long awaited third studio album Detox for eleven years now and has been delayed several times. This album has no release date yet and is said to be Dr. Dre’s last album.
