After a two months hiatus we’re back with Booker’s Sample This!! If this is your first time looking at this particular section of the site this is where we enlighten you with music that has been sampled by other artists. Take a look back at our past posts to understand the music behind the music, behind the music if that makes any sense.

What other way to bring back “Sample This” then to show Cali some love and take you back to 2Pac‘s 1995 classic “California Love”.

Now we’re pretty sure most of you were just coming out of your mommas tummies around that time but as hard as it is to believe this song continues to get as many spins on the radio today as it did 17 years ago.

“California Love” dropped in 1995 as his come back single after being released from prison, but what you may not have known was that this song was sampled from Joe Cocker’s 1972 single “Woman to Woman.”

Joe Cocker is an English rock and blues singer who was popular from the 60’s to the 80’s, just ask your parents we’re certain they can tell you. If you’ve ever watched “The Wonder Years” he is the guy responsible for that catchy theme song.

2Pac‘s “California Love” was one of the songs he was best known for and most successful selling 1,300,000 digital copies. The song was also nominated for a Grammy Award, Best Solo Rap Performance and Best Rap Performance for a Duo or Group.
