Dev has been a busy lady collaborating with Far East Movement and The Cataracs on “Like a G6”, putting out a hit record, and performing all over town. On top of all this, the singer recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Emilia Lovely. In honor of Mother’s Day, AMP Radio talked to her about the balancing act of motherhood and pop stardom.

When asked what surprised her most about motherhood, Dev said that “Emilia has made me so confident, grown, and loving. She really has done so much for me and she has no clue.”

In regards to the balancing act of being a mom and a singer, she thinks that “it’s definitely interesting, but my family is crazy supportive, so it’s been fun as hell!” Getting the best of both worlds, Dev gets to “rock it out, then I chill with my family […] at home”.

Sound like a perfect life to us!

Dev’s motherhood experience has had some embarrassing moments, though:

“So, I pumped to provide milk for my daughter, and let me tell you, I have definitely had to pump while in the car. Once my fiancé’s friend came up to me in the car to shake my hand and congratulate me on the baby, and I was mid-pump!! He had no idea what I was doing because I was covered up with my shirt, but if he only knew! And the funnier thing is, you guys probably know him too! But I’ll never tell. I was so in shock embarrassed!”

Good to know that even pop stars have mommy moments, too!

She also gave some great advice for new moms:

“Be healthy and take care of yourself, so you can take care of that babe. Sleep is key. Read up as much as you can on the net or even parenting books, but remember every situation is different. Accept help from family or friends, don’t feel bad, it can take a village to raise a baby. Figure out what works best for you and your babe. Love and support that baby as much as possible. It gets hard, but worth every difficult moment. You’re their hero, so keep pushing.”

Well, Dev is our hero for showing us that pursuing your dreams and having a family are not mutually exclusive. Even if it means being away for your first Mother’s day at a show. She says that she’s “planning a Skype date with my fiance and babe, and hopefully when I get back, I get lots of chocolate!”
