After what seems like years build up and hype, the moment Hunger Games groupies have been waiting for finally arrived…the world premiere!

The stars of this year’s hottest film swarmed the black carpet at Nokia Theatre full of nervous excitement and we were there on the scene to witness it all.

Phone Op Christen and I watched the big screen debut last night and gave our official fangirl review to Carson this morning:

Hundreds of fans had been camping out since 6 a.m. on Sunday in hopes of catching a glimpse of the cast and their persistence paid off. Dressed to the nines in a stunning gold Prabal Gurung backless gown, Jennifer Lawrence took some extra time to sign autographs for the throngs of devoted fans waiting in the outskirts of LA Live.

And it’s not just main characters getting all the love. Just like the Harry Potter and Twilight series, The Hunger Games has already reached a cult-like status.

We were checking in at the same location as some of the minor cast members when all of a sudden, a group of girls ran up to a redhead behind us pleading for a quick photo. Little did we know we were standing next to an Avox and one of the tributes from District 4!

It seems like all of Hollywood fell in love with the book series-turned-movie. Miley Cyrus, Blake Shelton, some of the Kardashian clan, and even Kid Cudi came to get a first look at the trilogy.

As the theater filled up to the brim with eager moviegoers, The Hunger Games director Gary Ross introduced the 3 main stars, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth on stage.

This is only the first of three films, but the trio already seemed like old buddies. Poor Jennifer struggled a bit in her gorgeous gold gown, tripping in front of the entire audience!

She played it off like a pro and hurried back to her seat before the movie began.

Without giving any spoilers, we have to say, the film did not disappoint!

The filmmakers did an incredible job of recreating the scenes depicted in the novel. When you see the Capitol, the Cornucopia, and the Hob, it’s shockingly accurate.

Jennifer Lawrence completely owned her role as protagonist Katniss Everdeen. She was backed up by a talented cast, including standout performances from Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci and Elizabeth Banks.

If you’re a hardcore fan, you’ll notice there are some differences between the movie and the book, but it didn’t take away from the overall story.

The most emotional moment of the evening came from young tribute Rue, played by actress Amandla Stenberg. She and Jennifer Lawrence had an incredible on-camera connection and we could actually hear people crying throughout their scenes.

Our only complaint? At times the movie seemed a little rushed. As a result, there’s not a whole lot of character development from Gale and Cinna, but some things have to end up on the cutting room floor.

The movie runs 142 minutes long, but honestly, we felt like it flew by in an instant!

Of course, they end the film with a big cliffhanger, so you best believe we’ll be back for Catching Fire! As of right now, the sequel is scheduled for a November 2013 release.
