McCabe’s LLS Team In Training Journal: Week 3

The training continues for the San Diego Half Marathon with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training.

As always we’ll be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.

This year our Team of over 100 runners/walkers, with your donations, will raise about a quarter of a million dollars.  That’s huge!!!  I’m $1,000 dollars away from reaching my personal fund raising goal, so every dollar counts.  Thanks to everyone who has donated!!!

I’m using as a bit of a running journal.  Hang out and share your training stories in the comments too!  I want to hear all of them.

Week 3

This week it’s all about finding that perfect shoe.  We’re talking over 13 miles here for the San Diego Half Marathon, I need my footsies feeling top notch.  So with 3 weeks of training under my belt I ventured out to Arch And Sole on La Brea to find that perfect shoe.  These guys know their stuff!

I spoke with Mahmoud, the owner and he knew it all, very knowledgeable.  He was all about making your shoe buying experience comfortable, so when it’s go time and YOU start that Marathon, you’re all set.

I’m not gonna lie, he really new his stuff and used specific important words, (that I can’t remember) so I’ll keep it simple.  Pretty much my foot is on the more narrow side and my arch is high.  Shoe size is about a 10 and we went with a 10 ½ so there’s room to grow during the 13 mile run.  He had me try on 3 different shoe styles and walk around the store.  I did a little shufflin, just in case we celebrate and  dance after the Marathon.

After some serious party rocking in the shoe store I ended up going with BROOKS Ghost 4 Evolution.  They’re yellow and black and make my feet feel like they’re on vacation.  Plus, they make me run as fast as a cheetah (not really).   I also wanted to make sure my feet weren’t working up too much of a sweat so I picked up some FEATURES Performance socks.  These bad boys help with NO Blisters and have the seamless toe.

With my shoes and socks now on the team I’m ready for week 4.  We’ll be running 6 miles this Sunday, which will be a first for me.  I’ll keep you posted on the results!  Also, below is a link to my fundraising page and any amount is greatly appreciated.
