Popular music has changed so much over time, and now it’s affecting the world and YOU more than ever. Even if you thought legendary bands like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Beatles[/lastfm] had the most hits and sold the most albums EVER, newer acts have raised the bar and have beaten many records that were once thought to be unbreakable.

[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rihanna[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ke$ha[/lastfm], the Glee cast, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Flo Rida[/lastfm] and other famous artists of today have set a new standard for success.

There are so many groups that have been popular, but have never even had a #1 single. Led Zeppelin, REM, Depeche Mode and other well-known pop acts from the past may have a huge following, but they never made it to the top like Rihanna. To this date, Rihanna has ELEVEN #1 singles.

With “We Found Love,” RiRi became the  fastest solo artist to chart 20 Top 10 hits!

Do you remember when Flo Rida’s “Low” dropped in 2008? Overall it has sold 8 million copies, the same number as The Beatles’ “Hey Jude.”

This is interesting. Compare the lyrics from the two songs if you want to see how much pop culture has changed over time:

The [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Black Eyed Peas[/lastfm] broke many records with their album The E.N.D. “I Gotta Feeling” was the first single EVER to sell more than 1 million downloads. That song is more popular than any Elvis song ever was, or pretty much any classic song you can think of.

This has been a HUGE year for [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Katy Perry[/lastfm]! She now holds the same record as [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Michael Jackson[/lastfm] for most number one singles from an album! Her latest single is “The One That Got Away.”

Even though many question [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ke$ha[/lastfm]’s talent, you cannot deny her success. Her single “Tik-Tok” sold more copies than ANY Beatles single EVER!
