If you’ve been watching the news lately, then you’ve probably heard about the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City.
Things have gotten pretty intense. In fact, 700 people were arrested this weekend for blocking the Brooklyn Bridge!
This morning, the movement spread westward to Los Angeles.
Carson has been following all the reports, but wasn’t quite sure what all the fuss is about, so we’re breaking it all down for you today!
The crew calls themselves the 99 percent, signifying the unequal distribution of wealth in the United States.
They marched around LA’s City Hall and they don’t plan on stopping until their voices are heard.
But when KTLA went out to interview the protestors today, they couldn’t seem to agree on why they were all there!
Carson wanted answers!
So what are their demands? One of our listeners, Subi, filled us in.
The 3 main reasons that the group is protesting are:
- The fact that lower and middle classes pay more taxes proportionally than corporations
- The state of healthcare is grossly behind for a developed country
- Education is promoted as a means of upward mobility, but now all these young people are graduating with lots of debt and no available jobs.
