Here in the good old U.S.A., entertainers like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Katy Perry[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Britney Spears[/lastfm] are the bread and butter of pop music.

Honestly, we can’t imagine a day at AMP Radio without hearing all three!

But we guess they aren’t so chummy with the Chinese government because some of their most popular tracks have been blacklisted from online downloading websites!

According to The Guardian, China passed a directive back in 2009 aimed at removing “poor taste and vulgar content.” As a result, all tracks available for digital download must be submitted for approval first.

Every few months or so, they identify a new batch of songs that don’t fall in line with their standards.

The situation seems to be pretty severe. Music sites must take down the tracks by September 15 or else they could face prosecution.

[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Katy Perry[/lastfm]’s “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” made the list of 100 songs. Probably because she talks about “streaking in the park and skinny dipping in the dark,” and don’t forget the menage a trois!

Surprisingly, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyonce[/lastfm]‘s girl power anthem “Run The World” popped up on the radar too.

Seems harmless, right? Well, we guess they determined the phrase, “We run this mutha,” to be profane.

And new songs aren’t the only ones on the chopping block.

Also recently banned was the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Backstreet Boys[/lastfm]’ smash hit, “I Want It That Way.” Hmm…better late than never?

But [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] takes the cake. She has the most blacklisted titles, including “Edge of Glory,” “Hair,” “Marry The Night,” “Americano,” “Bloody Mary” and “Judas.”

Could you imagine life without these songs? We sure couldn’t!

So be a proud American and listen to one of the banned singles right now!
