In the quest for higher education, even popstars know the importance of achieving a college degree!
Most of them, before they were famous, enrolled in some of the top universities across the country in order to exercise their brains in the same way they workout their vocal chords.
Think you know which ones got an A+ in intellectual stimulation?
10. Greg Gillis aka. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Girl Talk[/lastfm]
Greg wowed us with his incredible DJ skills at Lollapalooza, but it wasn’t until we realized he used to be a biomedical engineer and graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Celeveland, Ohio that we realized just how talented he was outside of music.
Now that his career as one of the world’s top DJ’s has taken off, he’s not biomedically doing anything, but spinning records, which pleases us greatly.
9. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dev[/lastfm]
Dev might be best known for making her “Booty Bounce” but before she got busy “Dancing In The Dark” she enrolled in San Joaquin Delta College to study English & art history.
However, her time there was cut short when she released a video of her covering Amy Winehouse’s “Blonde Trick” and producers The Cataracs got ahold of her and brought her to Los Angeles. We’re sure, if she gets tired of singing, Dev will return to school and get her degree. You’re never too old to learn!
8. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Andy Samberg[/lastfm] of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lonely Island[/lastfm]
Andy Samberg is the comedic genius behind The Lonely Island which graced the world with such magical, hilarious songs as “D*ck In A Box,” “I’m On A Boat” and “I Just Had Sex.”
He collaborated with some of the biggest names in pop music, including Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake & Akon and none of this would have been possible if he hadn’t completed his life path and graduated from New York University.
The more you know!
7. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sean Combs[/lastfm]
Sean Combs was always destined for greatness. He knew he wanted to create an empire and enrolled at the prestigious Howard University.
However, he left before graduating to become an executive at Uptown Records. If ever there was a decent reason to leave school early becoming an executive is one of them.
Combs continues to be one of the most powerful men in music we just wonder when he’ll go back to school and finish his degree once and for all.
6. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mike Posner[/lastfm]
Mike was always destined for greatness, which is probably why he knew he’d be “Cooler Than You” and it’s likely part of that came from the fact that he graduated from Duke University with a 3.59 GPA.
After school he decided to tackle popstardom and seems to be on the way to accomplishing that goal too!
5. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Common[/lastfm]
The Chicago native and Kanye West collaborator credits his Southern hip hop influence to the time he spent in Florida for college.
Common graduated from Florida A&M University under a scholarship and majored in business administration giving him the ability to be his own boss in “The Game” known as hip hop.
4. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ludacris[/lastfm]
It turns out Ludacris had a plan to dominate the music business right from the start. He attended Gerogia State University where he studied music management.
This education eventually came into play when he co-founded Disturbing tha Peace Records. And people say that no one ever uses their degree, so take that naysayers.
3. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lil Wayne[/lastfm]
You’re probably asking yourself, what’s Lil Wayne doing on this list? Well, Weezy apparently had one of those five year plans that [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]RZA[/lastfm] introduced.
He enrolled in University of Houston in 2005, but dropped out when scheduling conflicts made it too hard to attend. But don’t go thinking that Lil Wayne abandoned education entirely.
He apparently enrolled in online classes at Phoenix University cause with knowledge comes power and he plans to continue being one of the most powerful men in hip hop obviously.
2. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Shakira[/lastfm]
Shakira is the “She Wolf” of higher education. She enrolled at University California Los Angeles after becoming an international superstar because she knew that a degree is one of the most important things you can ever obtain in life.
1. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm]
Mother Monster knows what’s up when it comes to education. At 16, she was one of the youngest people accepted into the Tisch School Of The Arts at New York University.
After two years, she left school to pursue her career as a performance artist, promising her father that she’d reenroll if things did not turn out. Looks like she won’t be enrolling…for now, but you never know what the future holds.
