Baby girl [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyoncé[/lastfm] has a thing for her ballads and we’re not hating on that: We can get pretty sentimental sometimes which is why we love “Best Thing I Never Had.”

But according to the songwriter who wrote “Best Thing I Never Had,” the original version was more of an uptempo dance tune with less passion and more…pumping bass.

Here’s the current version of ‘Best Thing I Never Had’:

And here’s the original version:

Songwriter Patrick “j.Que” Smith said that he liked his version of the song better because it was less of a “ballad.” All the drama and emotion is replaced with a similar drum-line snare as we hear on “Run The World (Girls).”

That’s fun, that’s fine, but that’s just not (Sasha) Fierce. The Beyoncé we know wouldn’t have a dance-off with a questionable ex-lover. She’d teach him a lesson he’ll never forget.

You tell us. Which version of “Best Thing I Never Had” do you like the best? The current Beyonce-approved ballad or the original dance track?
