Okay, so Carmageddon wasn’t nearly as nutso as we thought it was going to be.

Traffic was super light all weekend long, but admit it, even you had fun hearing about all the madness.

Restaurants and local businesses were featuring special 405 deals, but the most hilarious offer had to be Jet Blue’s Carmageddon flight from Burbank to Long Beach.

I was lucky enough to score a spot on that plane and now I’m sharing what it was like to fly above the deserted streets of Los Angeles!

Carson sat me down this morning to hear about my “grueling” weekend of travel!  Take a listen:

My day started around 11am when I checked in for my flight.

From the moment I stepped foot in the airport, it was crawling with all sorts of journalists just waiting to hear why we all bought a ticket on the flight.

But my lips were sealed because I was saving my story for Carson!

Because the flight was so short, there wasn’t any time for food or drink service.

Instead, Jet Blue set up a spread of free drinks and snacks outside our gate.

Also a nice touch? The plane and traffic-themed cake.

Once I boarded Flight 405 (pun intended), I knew it was going to be a party plane.

Needless to say, it was a little funny listening to the flight attendants and pilot go through their routine speeches. Our flight time was a grueling 19 minutes with an altitude of up to 9000 feet!

Since the flight was so short, we weren’t allowed to use any electronics or take any bathroom breaks! Glad I planned ahead on that one…

The pilot pointed out all the sights along the way, including the deserted 405 freeway.

It felt like a post-apocalyptic world staring down at the empty road, but before I could even blink, we zoomed right past it.

But while we were getting a bird’s eye view from above, a group of cyclists on solid ground below decided to up the ante and turn this whole day into a competition.

After the story of Jet Blue’s flight went viral on the web, they challenged the airline to a race.

The cyclists figured that they could bike all the Long Beach within the time it takes to check-in, go through security, and fly to the destination.

Believe it or not, they won. Easily.

The cyclists made the trip in 1 hour and 34 minutes, whereas my flight took a whopping 2 hours and 54 minutes!

Can you believe it?

Vodpod videos no longer available.

On the return trip, it was our pilot’s mission to make it home in record time. He suceeded with a flight time of 13 minutes and 55 seconds at an altitude of 5000 feet!

All in all, it’s was a completely random day, but I had a ball. Seriously, when will you ever fly on a roundtrip flight for only $8?
