He’s a ten-time GRAMMY winner and heavyweight of Rap and Pop. Now Jay-Z find himself heading to the 53rd GRAMMY Awards with six nominations and an epic amount of lip-service paid to The Blueprint 3 and “Empire State Of Mind.”

Can he pull of a heist that will leave the likes of Eminem and Lady Gaga screaming for blood? Trends takes a look.

Shawn Carter has epic form when it comes to the GRAMMYs, with nominations in every year of last decade (and three more in 1999 for good measure) and wins in more than half of them.

As one of Rap and Hip-Hop’s most titans his impact on mainstream music is without doubt, and his hand in wins for Rihanna, Beyoncé and Linkin Park have not gone unnoticed.

Below are his top five GRAMMY-nominated tracks so far.

Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” which netted Jay-Z and Rihanna Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in 2008, comes top of the chart, but seems to have underperformed at the awards with just one accolade.

The same goes for “99 Problems” and “Numb/Encore,” although the latter may have been hamstrung by straddling too many genres.

“Crazy In Love” grabbed two for Beyoncé and Jay-Z, punching above its weight compared to the other GRAMMY winners in the chart. He’ll be hoping that “Empire State Of Mind” gets back to that kind of performance. It could well do; though its plays are starting to fall it’s still a big enough draw that most of the competition in the Rap categories will have difficulty bettering it.

Record of the Year
could well be in reach too. For many categories now all roads lead to Gaga, but she’s not around for this one…

Find out if he can do it on CBS on February 13th when they air the GRAMMYSs, and find out more of Trends’ picks now.
