If you were engaging in some friendly side bets at this year’s Super Bowl, you may have been concerned about whether [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm] would hit the over/under on the singing of the national anthem. (For the record, she finished at exactly 1 minute, 54 seconds, making it a push by Vegas odds.)

However, the bigger story of the night was that the accomplished pop star managed to screw up the lyrics of The Star-Spangled Banner!

In the song heard ’round the world, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm] screwed up the lyrics to the national anthem at around the 40-second mark, singing “what so proudly we watched,” instead of “o’er the ramparts we watched.”

Social networks like Facebook and Twitter lit up with comments after the flub and Christina responded quickly with a statement to the Associated Press:

I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of it’s anthem still came through.

So was Christina Aguilera’s rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner a total trainwreck or an honest mistake? Tell us what you think!
