The Adventures Of Bobby Ray was one of the records that seemed to dominate the summer, wrapping up fans of pop, rap, hip-hop and the dirty south sound into a genuine crossover smash.

But the Grammys don’t quite know what to do with B.o.B. Trends takes a look at what that means for Bobby Ray Simmons.

With five nominations to his name B.o.B could be one of the big winners at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards. But the competition seems stacked against him; he’s too pop for rap and too rap for pop. doesn’t have fixed genres, but listeners can tag the tracks they listen to with whatever they think is appropriate. B.o.B’s most popular are below.

Among the biggest are rap and hip-hop, making sense of his nominations for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album.

But in those categories he’s up against the likes of Eminem and Jay-Z, whose credentials as rappers remain untarnished despite huge commercial success.

Pop doesn’t feature nearly as heavily in the tag cloud, but still he scores a nod for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. Maybe that’s down to Hayley Williams‘ contribution; she even features as a tag in her own right, as hundreds of listeners add “Airplanes, Part II” to playlists that also include Chariots‘ mathcore “Then Came To Kill” and the raw emo of Say Anything‘s “Plea.”

In the end though it all boils down to the Record of the Year nomination. With such a diverse appeal – from hipster rap to crunk – B.o.B’s reach could well keep Lady Gaga from taking the top spot, as unlikely as it may seem.
